Franklin D. Roosevelt took many steps in trying to involve the government during the Great Depression. Although Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal didn't eliminate unemployment throughout America or poverty for that matter, it is important to have a wider view on Roosevelt's leadership than simply these economic statistics. Franklin took many positive steps towards the recovery of America throughout these brutal years. At the start of his presidency, he announced his 100 day campaign, where he drafted and instilled several new policies. He created more government intervention plans in 100 days, then most presidents would create in 4 years. Furthermore, Roosevelt created a number of alphabet agencies. These were set in stone to leverage the outrageous numbers of unemployed citizens surrounding the country. An example of an alphabet agency is the CCC. This was a relief agency created for young men from the ages of 18-23 which provided manual labour jobs related to conservation or development of natural resources. In essence, the fact that Roosevelt was applying positive knowledge to the country was enough for American citizens to feel the hope that they needed.

The main cause of the stock market crash was due to various economic imbalances. One of these imbalances includes the major growth in credit loans that were given out by banks. Because the economy was so strong, they assumed that the stock market was the best way to go. Another reason in which people were wiped out after the stock market crash was because of the use of buying on margin. This meant that most of the money they were using to acquire their stocks was borrowed from the bank. As soon as stock prices plummeted, these type of investors were doomed as they didn't have the financial capabilities to repay their loans. While playing the stock market game in class,it was a pretty good feeling making a bunch of dough, even after paying the bank back the difference I was left with a big chunk of money. I can just imagine how American's were feeling back then; so rich and lucky. However, it was a pretty crappy feeling when the stock market suddenly crashed. All of a sudden you were left with overwhelming amounts of depts to repay.

The 1920's was an era of huge economic change that swept over the country. This era brought a feeling of freedom and independence to millions of Americans. A few names that were used to describe this time was the "Jazz age" or the "roaring twenties". These conveyed the idea that the twenties were a time of excitement as social conventions were occurring. One of the reasons for the economy's incredible growth rate was due to the automobile industry lead by Henry Ford. The assembly line was created which created a more substantial output of products. The number of cars on the road tripled between the years of 1920 and 1929. Mass consumption was highly encouraged through these years by advertisement. This advertisement created a demand for products, which instilled the idea into the consumer that they needed to purchase these products. The 1920's brought advancements to woman's right, where they were finally granted the right to vote. This era shifted from a more agricultural and industrial to a society of consumerism. All of a sudden everyone wanted to be spending money.
