Summary
The manhattan project was developed to be the ace under the Americans sleeve. It was designed to ultimately end the war but its main purpose was to save lives believe it or not. If the Americans had tried to land on the Japanese main island they estimated that it would have cost the U.S one Million soldiers and the Japanese 10 Million. It was a tough decision in the end that Truman had to make to launch it but if he hadn't, we may still be fighting the war today. Ever since the bomb has been dropped no one has dared to start a third world war because they know the destruction that would be caused and it may even cost us our planet. In a way the atomic bomb is the ultimate peace keeper.
