Woodrow Wilson believed that collective security would prevent another World War from occurring, as all the other countries who agreed to it would have the same motives in mind, establishing World Peace. Not only did The League of Nations wish to stop war, but it was set in stone to aid in slavery, health issues and refugees around the globe. The reason why the league of nations were doomed from the start is because the US, Russia and Germany weren't involved. The Us wasn't involved as Woodrow Wilson was a democrat while the congress was republican, and together, they could not come to agreement. Also, they were in a state of isolationism, and had no intentions to be a part of European affairs. Russia wasn't involved as they are a communist government, that generated fear in Western Europe. Germany couldn't have been involved as they had started World War 1 . One of their punishments after the treaty of Versailles states that they could no longer be a part of international organizations. The League of Nations was seen as weak, since none of these larger powers were apart of it. Another reason why it failed was due to the fact that they didn't have a military, and couldn't pose any threats. In summary, the League of Nations were doomed from it's creation as all the countries who were apart of it, were looking out for themselves and not for peace.

Woodrow Wilson (President of the US), Georges Clemenceau (Prime Minister of France), David Loyd George (Prime Minister of Great Britain) and Vittorio Emanuele Orlando (Prime Minister of Italy), all wanted to stop the war from reoccurring. However, all 4 men had different ideas in mind at the Paris Peace conference. Clemenceau wanted revenge on Germany, asking for reparations for the damage they had done, and to weaken them so that they wouldn't invade France again. Wilson wished to make the world a safer place. He established the "fourteen points" in 1918, and gave the idea of the League of Nations to aid in world peace. Furthermore, he promised self-determination for the people of Europe. David Loyd George wanted a happy medium between Wilson and Clemenceau. He wished for justice, and not revenge as that wouldn't assist in the termination of war. He also had plans for Britain, these included: increasing trade, maintaining control of the seas and expanding the british empire. In 1925, after Vittorio made At the Paris Peace Conference there were originally 4 main men . However, when Vittorio Emanuele Orlando (Prime Minister of Italy), demanded for land, Wilson, Clemenceau and George brought a lot of opposition to these demands, which forced him out of the conference in 1925.
My name is Tannis Potter and I am 17 years old from Jasper, Alberta, a small town in the Canadian Rockies. My favourite kind of fruits are mangoes and strawberries, but the strawberries can't be mushy. I love playing sports, these include: gymnastics, soccer, field hockey, snowboarding and skiing. I would say I'm quite an outdoorsy person. Hiking, cliff diving and and sky diving all interest me! I've accomplished many hikes and cliff dives in my life, however, I haven't had the chance to skydive, but I'm hoping to do so soon.. Hopefully in Africa! :). I also love to travel. I wish to retire earlier on in life so that I can spend the rest of my days exploring, and discovering the world. My travels so far have taken me to: India, Thailand, Mexico, Costa Rica, Hawaii( and many places in the Us), as well as France. Finally, I know that this year at Shawnigan will be the BEST, and has to be the BEST, because it's our LAST. |
